OCR Assistant Director of Undergraduate Research

The Carolina OCR welcomes applications for the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Research. This position requires a commitment of a full academic year. In the Fall 2009, 3 hours credit is offered (JOMC296) with Prof. Craig Carroll as a directed study; in the Spring 2010, 3 hours credit is offered (JOMC294) with Jay Eubank as an Internship/Practicum. The position requires 8-10 hours a week with a time commitment of MW 10-11:15am and TR 12:30-2pm, with other hours coordinated with Prof. Carroll. Prerequisites include: JOMC130, JOMC279, and JOMC431.

OCR Media Analyst Team

The Carolina OCR welcomes applications for Undergraduate Research Assistant. Students can receive 2-4 hours credit for participating in an ongoing study about media portrayals of North Carolina companies. All majors welcome. 

A background in business or journalism and mass communication is not required. Students from History, Sociology, Political Science, Economics, Business, International Relations, and Journalism are particularly encouraged to apply.Non-JOMC majors receive 2-4 hours credit and must have a home-department sponsor, in the role of a faculty member or adviser.JOMC majors receive 3 hours credit, and must have a JOMC faculty sponsor.

If you are selected to work on this research project, you will be expected to attend all training classes on T/Th from 12:30pm-2:00 pm and code independently 8 – 10 hours of online news content per week.

Students are expected to supply three references from UNC Faculty, Staff, or Graduate Students. A copy of the application can be found here.

The Carolina OCR and Community-Based Research

The Carolina OCR welcomes undergraduate student applications for Summer Community-Based Research.

The Office for Undergraduate Research, the APPLES Service-Learning Program and the Carolina Center for Public Service are pleased to offer Community-Based Research (CBR) Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURFs). Students will receive $3,500 to work with community members and a faculty research advisor to design and implement a research project that meets a community need. Come to an information session on Wednesday, Jan. 21 from 7:00pm-7:45pm in Rm 3503, Student Union. At the session, you will learn about the principles of community-based research and the resources available to help you implement a project. In addition, previous fellows will discuss their projects. SURF: Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships

The Carolina OCR welcomes undergraduate student applications for Undergraduate Research Fellowships.

UNC's Office for Undergraduate Research is offering $3,000 summer fellowships to students who wish to conduct research during the Summer 2009.  The Carolina OCR will be taking applicants from this program.

All currently enrolled UNC-Chapel Hill undergraduate students in good academic standing are eligible to apply. Project must be research, scholarship or performance conducted for at least 9 weeks, with a minimum 20 hours/week, between May 11, 2009 and August 23, 2009.

An information meeting will be held on January 27, 2009 from 5:30-7:00 in Room 1005 FedEx Global Education Center to hear from successful applicants, ask questions about the application and selection process, learn about the peer advising program, and sign up for help with your proposal from someone with similar interests.

The Carolina Center for Public Service (CCPS)

The Carolina Center for Public Service (CCPS) is accepting applications for the 2009 Robert E. Bryan Fellowships and the UNC Entrepreneurial Public Service Fellowships. The Carolina OCR seeks applicants from this program. Any returning, full-time undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at UNC-Chapel Hill is eligible to apply. Each fellow plans and works on a summer project with a community partner and a faculty mentor who is familiar with the fellow's topic and/or geographic area.
