Carolina OCR

The Carolina OCR's Analytical team is a multi-disciplinary group from across campus. Our team includes students from outside the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, including students from such majors as Economics, Geography, History, International Relations, Political Science, and Sociology.  

	Aaron Brown Aaron Brown is a communications studies major focusing on media production with a music minor. Hailing from Asheville, N.C., he is a sophomore at Carolina. Brown is planning on entering either Johnson & Wales or the French Culinary Institute after college in order to pursue a career in either business management or culinary arts. In his free time Aaron enjoys playing tennis, piano, and guitar.
	Miles Cottom Miles Cottom is a history and geography double major with a minor in city and regional planning. Originally from Concord, North Carolina, he is now a third-year Carolina student. Miles’ postgraduate hopes are to earn a master's in planning from the UNC Department of City and Regional Planning, as well as a law degree from an undetermined institution. On campus Miles is heavily involved with the UNC-CH Ski and Snowboard Club, and also works as a student assistant for the Carolina Varsity Softball team.
	Shirley Delgado Shirley Delgado is a junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is majoring in sociology and pursuing minors in cognitive sciences and Spanish. She spent last summer working with children at a summer camp and traveling through Costa Rica. In the future she plans to attend graduate school to receive her master’s in social work. Her area of interest is race and ethnic relations and its effects on child policy.
	Whitney Garrison Whitney Garrison is a junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is pursuing majors in journalism and mass communications and history. She aspires to attain a career in multicultural marketing or corporate social responsibility. Participating in the OCR’s corporate reputation research initiative will help her gain the appropriate skills set she will need in her future in order to assess her employer’s contribution to and relationships with its surrounding communities and diverse audiences. After receiving her B.A. from UNC-CH, she plans on spending three to five years in the workforce before returning to school to complete her M.B.A.
	William Green William Green is a sophomore at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a journalism major and geography minor. He enjoys playing tennis and reading and holds an interest in media research. During the summer of 2008, he worked at Storm Technologies, an energy company located in his hometown of Albemarle, North Carolina.
	Jordan Harris Jordan Harris is a junior journalism major focusing on advertising. She is interested in discovering how a company’s image in various media outlets may affect the overall image of the company. Jordan hopes to pursue a career as a marketing planner following graduation.
	Madison Hipp Madison Hipp is a junior journalism major at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a concentration in public relations. Madison is interested in research that explores how individuals interact with various forms of media and the media’s resulting impact on society. Madison hopes to travel extensively in the future and work alongside a variety of people. One day she hopes to start a business of her own that combines her passion for creativity and her love for people to help better the lives of others.
	Ben Ivey Ben Ivey is a freshman business administration and communication studies double major hailing from the suburbs of Winston-Salem, NC. He has a strong interest in finance and hopes to pursue a career in a related field following graduation. Ben joined the OCR in order to satisfy both his interest in media portrayal and to diversify his academic experience at UNC.
	Kelsey Jackson Kelsey Jackson is a junior journalism major and history minor from High Point, North Carolina. She is interested in media analysis and broadcast journalism. In her free time she enjoys reading, running, and traveling. After graduation from UNC-CH, she plans to live in a big city and work for a news broadcast station or advertising agency.
	Joshua Jenkins Joshua Jenkins is a junior at UNC majoring in communications studies with a focus in interpersonal and organizational communication anda minor in public relations. He is the performing arts chairman of the Carolina Union Activities Board and also serves as on the Carolina Union Board of Directors. He works with Student Television’s program “Carolina Style”, is the parliamentarian of UNC’s Concept of Colors modeling troupe and has worked as an advisor with the Minority Advising Program through the Office for Student Academic Counseling. As an Aubrey Lee Brooks scholar, he has studied abroad in Ghana, West Africa and Florence, Italy with the hopes of going to Tanzania in the summer of 2009. His career goal is to work as a public relations practitioner.
	Amber Kepley Amber Kepley is a junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is journalism major with a focus in public relations. Amber is interested in media measurement and observing how the various media portray things differently. Amber hopes to focus her career in the non-profit or corporate sector.
	Anna Loeschner Anna Loeschner is a junior at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A Texas native, Anna grew up in Maine and came to North Carolina to attend school. Her intends to major in journalism with a minor in communication studies. After college, Anna hopes to work as an event planner or public relations practitioner.
	James Sawyer Lucy James Sawyer Lucy is a junior majoring in economics and sociology. One of the few non-journalism majors in the program this semester, Sawyer’s interest was piqued by his previous researchon individual companies for stock trading purposes. Sawyer wants to own his own business one day and currently works with his family in their stock trading entity. Until he creates and patents one of his ideas, he is looking to enter into financial statistics or economic development work in the state of North Carolina.
	Amanda MacLaren Amanda MacLaren is from Charlotte, NC and is a second-semester sophomore at UNC-Chapel Hill. She is majoring in journalism in the news/editorial sequence. She hopes to eventually become the editor-in-chief for a major fashion magazine.
	David Marshall David Marshall is a junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is majoring in mathematical decision sciences with a minor in physics. David plans to pursue a career in actuarial sciences or operations research. He enjoys playing soccer and basketball, and is on the club track and field team at UNC.
	Juan Camilo Méndez Juan Camilo Méndez is a junior history and political science double major. Juan joined Carolina OCR this fall and is interested in corporate responsibility, government-business relations, and media analysis. A Colombian national, he lives in New York and spent the last semester studying classical history and politics in Athens.
	Emilie Moseley Emilie Moseley is a junior advertising major and a Spanish minor. She hopes to work in account planning when she graduates in 2010. Emilie is from Durham, N.C., and is a member of the club swimming team at UNC-CH.
	Jennifer Scholl Jennifer Scholl is a junior majoring in journalism focusing on advertising. Last summer, she interned part-time with the Tideland News, a paper in her hometown of Swansboro, North Carolina. She is currently employed with UNC-CH Department of Athletics Communications as a student assistant, working behind the scenes in public relations for the University’s athletic programs. She hopes to come away with research knowledge and a better understanding of media relations from the OCR.
	Cory Tarlton Cory Tarlton is a sophomore journalism major with a concentration in public relations. Born in the small town of Forest City, North Carolina, he hopes to continue studying various aspects of how the media shapes the perceptions, thoughts, and preferences of those who observe it. He is a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and is active within the Greek community.
	Emily Widle Emily Widle is a junior at UNC-Chapel Hill majoring in journalism with a focus on advertising. She is from Clemmons, North Carolina. Last summer, she interned with the creative department at Koroberi, a business-to-business advertising agency. She is also interested in social media research.
